Big Lecture

Last October 30 we went to Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium to watch the Big Lecture on Philosophy and Money. The first speaker was Miss Milette Zamora on the value of money. In her lecture she said that when you die money has no value to you, and that you cannot take it with you. I do believe that this is true, but without money I think that you can’t and wouldn’t have a proper burial because it also costs money. She also quoted many famous people and that their quotes are all inspiring, especially about the value of happiness. I especially liked her talk on Steve Jobs on how to be successful and happy and those were” learn to predict the future, focus on the positive, fail forward, travel the world, obstacles are opportunities in disguise, don’t be shy to learn from others, take risks, surround yourself with great people, find the right partner, and remember that you’ll be dead soon.”

On learning to predict the future, I think that this is a big factor for you to make right decisions on how you use and spend your money. On “focusing on the positive”, I think that you really need to be positive because if you always think negatively you would have a very stressful life. On “travelling the world”, I think that travelling the world is an opportunity for anyone to see the different cultures and expand your horizons. On “obstacles are opportunities in disguise”, we can say that obstacles can become opportunities if you think positively at the obstacle at hand and that obstacles are challenges people to think differently to find a way out. On “don’t be shy to learn from others”, I think this applies to the older people because sometimes people just want to do on what they are used to and don’t want to experiment on new ideas. On ” take risks”, I think that taking calculated risks is a much better term for this because when you take unreasonable risks that would sabotage your name as a company.
