SCHOOL OF THE ARTS SINGAPORE

Positive effect

Stepping out from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, you will be awed by a stunning, uniquely shaped building from across the street, known as the School of the Arts, Singapore (SOTA). The design of the school is a new archetype, a large perforated civil building built in a way where it stands like a tripod which take advantages of sunlight for lighting and provides ventilation to all areas of the school. As you ascend the steps of SOTA, you will be greeted by multi-colored word designs. Entering the school, you will be pleasantly drawn in by the elegant classical music played by the students at the podium. The podium acts as a performing stage where it allows interaction between the public and the very young talented art students. Other than classical music, you may even get a chance to enjoy dance performances or even exhibits of students’ paintings here. As you move along the school, you will notice that the final touches of the building is not smooth or fine, but each and every detail on the pillars and walls are crafted exquisitely. After appreciating the fine arts and the uniquely designed structure, finish off the tour by allowing the sweet scent of pastries to guide you to the café nearby which serves heavenly tasting mousse cakes which will leave you wanting for more. Especially if you have a sweet tooth.
