Nowadays, there are a lot of happenings in the world. Every one of us experiences different challenges in our lives and our actions results to an outcome that affect our society. We just don’t know it but it creates a big impact. The sociological imagination helps us to go out in our comfort zone for us to learn what the relationship between us and the society is. According to the selection, C. Wright Mills defined the “Sociological Imagination” as the vivid awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the wider society. Sociological Imagination creates an impact in my way of thinking that I should help the society and be aware of the outcomes that my actions bring. We should accept the fact that over 6 billion people in the world, an individual has mentality that he/she cares only for himself not to the whole population. Seriously, sometimes I really don’t care about the environment I lived in and I know I’m not the only one who has this kind of perspective. I just focus on myself and the people, who are close to me but as I have read the selection, I was enlightened. I realized that I shouldn’t be selfish; I should learn how to view things differently, and go out in my boundary not just for the sake of improving myself but also my society. As the saying goes by, we are not only living for ourselves. As we grow old, we should do things that contribute to the development of our environment because in the first place, we are the one who will benefit from it. As I have said, we tend to stay in our shell and never go out to see the world in a different way and this is what Mills mean by being “trapped” because people tend to care for their own personal being. I can integrate myself in the world by sociological imagination and let myself see that I am part of the society.
