“Christian Coaching”

Abstract

Gary Collins book that he has written is called Christian Coaching: Helping others turn potential into reality. This book gives us an idea of what coaching gives us an idea of what coaching really is and the skills of a Christian coach. Another thing this book discusses the visions and strategies. Collins book gives us an idea of specialties in Christian coaching. This book gives us insight of helping others and ourselves of how we can make lasting change and how we can reach our goals or potential. I will give my response of what I thought about the book and how I am going to apply later on down the road.

Summary

We all get stuck at some point in our life and sometimes we need a little push of where we want to go or get some help seeing how much potential we really have. This is what a coach really does according to Collins (2009) coaching is about getting out of our ruts, advancing in career, reaching personal goals and corporate, dealing with conflict, getting through life transitions, clarifying visions, and helping to build relationships.

The author raises a question what makes coaching Christian? According to Collins (2009) he responds by saying it was the core of how Jesus related to people throughout his ministry. As a Christian coach they encourage others to find God’s vision for their lives and to follow what God has planned them to do. In order to build relationships and get them to realize the vision for their lives and get them to follow what God has planned them to do you have to acquire certain skills. One of these skills is listening. Along with listening a coach according to Collins (2009) is asking questions that get’s the clients to think fresh, lead to new insights, clarify problems, and challenge clients to explore new possibilities.
