When the film began, you begin to learn that Professor Bearing is a professor in a university. She teaches a course on 17th Century poetry. It is shown the Professor Bearing is a hard professor who has pride in her teaching and is 100% serious about the course that she teaches and what it consists of. She is shown as a strong minded, Intelligent woman who is very strong and indepepent. As the film continues and the cancer progresses as well as the intense chemotherapy that she is receiving continues, she beings to be more vulnerable and scared to die. She even states at one point that she wants to hide away. As the cancer gets worse she starts to reflect on memories and starts to regret the way she lived her life in certain days or the way that she acted such as when the student in her course asked for an extension on a paper that was due because his grandmother has passed away. She shows remorse as she looks back to memories. She goes from thinking in only one way to rethink how she has lived her life and the way that her mind worked. The cancer made her rethink everything more in depth.

The supporting characters in the film was the doctor who was working a fellowship with Professor Bearing main doctor whom name was Jason and the Nurse Susie. Jason was a former student of professor Bearing. Jason and Professor Bearing were very similar. Both Jason and professor bearing were always so focused on their accomplishment and work that they didn’t really have a life outside of their jobs. They were more into research than humanity. Jason didn’t see professor Bearing as a human but as research, he even at one point went overboard and didn’t listen to Professor Bearing wishes to not be no code at all, meaning when her heart stop she didn’t want to be brought back. Jason ignored that and went ahead and called code but he saw her as research not a person who had wishes that should be respected. Susie in the other hand cared for Professor Bearing. She was...
