I chose to research the art style Cubism for my final project. I researched the artwork of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque as inspiration for my drawings. I decided to pick Cubism for my bridal party because of the uniqueness and variation this type of artwork has to offer. Cubism allows an artist to break apart a piece of art into different shapes, allowing the artwork to be depicted from many different angels and depths.

One of the first paintings I used as research for my bridal party was Pablo Picasso’s Factory at Horto de Ebro. I chose this painting because of how well the separate shapes blended together to form a picture. I incorporated the shapes and colors from this painting in to my drawings in different ways in each outfit. I also researched Georges Braque’s painting, Bottle and Fishes, as inspiration for my drawings. I also incorporated the shapes of this painting in the clothing of my bridal party. Lastly, I used Pablo Picasso’s “blue period” as inspiration for my artwork. I used the colors and tones of his paintings in my drawings.

My Bridal Party

As you look through my bridal party you will see that I chose to use different tones of blues and yellows. These two colors compliment each other, which is why I chose to incorporate them in to my drawings. Each drawing incorporates colors and shapes from the other drawings; to make sure the bridal party looks like they belong together.

I decided to give the bride a short, structured silk and lace dress because it is not the typical wedding dress. The art form of Cubism is unique because the objects in the paintings are broken apart in different shapes. The bride’s wedding dress is also broken up in to different shapes. The shape of the dress is triangular and is mainly off white. You will see another triangle at the bottom corner of the dress with many different shapes put together in different tones of blue, which is what makes the dress unique and stand out.
