I have been working on the effects of technology on manufacturing. Specifically how technology has made advancements and has been replacing or eliminating the human factor. This is happening all over the world. Where humans used to be on assembly lines to build computers or cars, robots and other technologies have been coming in and taking over some of these aspects. The reasoning for this is simple, work gets done faster, more accurate, and for cheaper. By replacing and eliminating the human factor, companies are saving time and money by being able to replicate the process dozens of times during a single work day. Whereas the human analog would not be able to replicate exactly what they do and has more room for error. Mess up one thing and the whole item is wrong.

I plan to give a slideshow presentation. I have figured out that with Power Point, I will be able to include all of my information and be able to present it in a manner that is easily understood. This way I can add pictures and examples in a clear way. My classmates should be able to follow along pretty well with my slide show. I have found that if you can make a slide show interesting you can reach many different types of audiences. My main concern is my classmates seeing that technology can go as far as replacing humans in workplaces that manufacture products. If it is a repeatable task, a robot or computer can do it with precision that humans cannot.

Technology in the workplace came about in the 1980’s. With “supercomputers” at the time used by the military to basically do math problems in minutes that it would take a human to do in days. This could give the military precise solutions to use while ordering air strikes or ground attacks versus a human who could make a mistake and cause mass casualties. With the invention of the person computer by Bill Gates, the computer industry took off. Branching from a single computer in a company to a computer on every desk, this was the...
