During World War I (WWI) and World War II (WWII), fascism came abrupt in 1919 and 1945. It was nationalistic and mobilized its people for some grand task. Liberalism, democracy, and communism are all condemned to fascists. This brings us to the changes the wars made towards Europe. In World War I, Europe went through a Great Depression causing their economy to collapse. This event went towards World War II where Europe and Germany had a disagreement. How exactly did World War I impact Europe?

World War I changed Europe drastically. Although the war brought along new nations and states, it destroyed empires. It also had women arguing for their rights to vote. One of Europe’s largest impact was the Great Depression in 1929. While the United States dealt with the American stock market crash, it spread to Europe as well as other places. Europe’s economy collapsed along with the U.S. Since factories and farms were producing more goods, no one was able to buy any of it including European countries. WWI devastated the European economy. It also caused tension between Europe and Germany. That problem only lead to another war which introduces World War II.

When World War II started, it was said to be more disastrous than the first war, but people were wrong. The tension between Germany and Europe was battle for everyone. Hitler was running Germany at the time and control over everyone including the Jews. Germany did not like the position they held after the first war. That’s when “The tide began to turn in 1942 when the Soviet Union absorbed the German onslaught and then began to counterattack, slowly and painfully moving, westward toward the German heartland.” (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2011). After watching from afar, the United States joined in 1942 bringing human resources and enormous materials to WWII. Germany was finally defeated in May 1945.

Although the Great Depression was a huge impact on Europe in World War I, they had to handle Germany...
