Drug Abuse is an ongoing problem in the United States today. Drug abuse has impacted us all as users and non-users as well. Drug abuse is defined as a habitual taking of addictive and illegal substances. There are two types of drugs that we can get access to; prescription and illegal. Prescription drugs often are prescribed by doctors. Illegal drugs are obtained through drug trade. Some of the drugs that are abuse are marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and meth. These are just a few common drugs that are abused daily. Drug Abuse is not limited to the particular drugs in question; Tobacco and alcohol are just as addictive as the rest. Every abuser has many different causes for their own personal addictions.

The word drug means a chemical substance that can change how your body and mind works. Drugs can impair the body’s senses, and inflicted harm to it as well. A large number of abusers abuse drugs because they want to feel good. Others may abuse because they feel as though they need it. Teens often abuse because they believe that it will improve their performance at work or school, however this cannot be proven. Some abusers will abuse drugs just to fit in with others. For whatever the reason drug abuse is wrong. Rather it be substance or illicit; drug abuse impacts America.

There are a lot of people that are abusing drugs in America. As of 2010 2.4 million Americans abused drugs for the very first time within the past year. This means that there were also 6,600 intents per day. More than half of abusers are classified as female; about a third of them ranged from age 12 to 17. This just goes to show that abusers come in all shapes, sizes, ages and genders. However, this does not state that women are more subject to drug abuse than men.
