The book “Professional and Technical Business Communication for Tertiary Institutions” is written by Mr. N. M. Ohaegbulem a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Office Technology and Management, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana. The book was first published in January 2011 by Udag Indomitable Publisher Limited Enugu and has ISBN 978-35046-3-4.

Features: The text has a red and blue colour cover with a communication process diagram in front. The diagram relates the main subject of the text to the reader which is communication. The text has 379 pages with 26 chapters which comprises the scope of business communication. One of the author’s objectives of writing the text is to give students a true picture of the world of business communication. He accomplished this by discussing the following topics in the chapters as analyzed below:

Chapter One deals with the introduction of business communication, the significance of communication and the goals of communication.

Chapter Two explained the methods of communication describing it in three major areas namely; verbal communication, written communication and body language.

Chapter Three treated the Basic communication competencies and their implications in the world of business.

Chapter Four explained the communication process by describing communication variables or elements, basic rules for good office communication, role of the speaker and role of the receiver.

Chapter Five treated effective organizational communication by explaining what is organizational communication, communication network, factors affecting effective organizational communication and ways of overcoming organizational communication barriers.
