Statistics show that more than one point three million women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer with lung cancer being the first. Half a million women with this disease die each year. However, survival rates for patients with breast cancer have improved dramatically over the past decade. There can be different forms of this disease. Not all breast cancer is the same.

Scientist and researchers have made many advances in studying the causes of breast cancers, and how to cure this disease. Researchers have found that women who are over the age of seventy are less likely to survive. Older patients are less likely to receive the same results of treatments as younger patients. This varies mainly on how well your immune system reacts with cancer treatments.

Treatments for breast cancer can be expensive and very painful. Treatments sometime cause emotional and physical stress on the patient. Women should go have a mammogram done at least twice a year. This way doctors can detect breast cancer as soon as possible while it is in the earliest stages.Over screening may create false alarms. However, under screening may lead to an unpreventable disease.
