Factors to be considered when diagnosing a patient with Neurocognitive disorders
(Dementia)
1. INTRODUCTION
Neurocognitive disorder (NCD) is a reduction or impairment of cognitive
function in one of the areas such as, neural pathways, or cortical network
in the brain. It is a disorder that is mainly related or found in cognition, as
it includes memory, language, orientation, judgment, problem-solving,
planning, the ability to have interpersonal relations and perform actions
(referred to as praxis) . for example, when a person is experiencing or has
significant regular trouble in this areas of cognition which disrupts their
daily functioning. It may be due to a neurocognitive disorder, that can be
caused by head injury( due to a motor vehicle accidents, gunshot to the
head or from a fall), medical condition such as HIV/AIDS, or the misuse or
abuse of substances (e.g alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, illicit drugs and many
more).
Neurocognitive disorder can be classified as different kinds of disorders
due to its symptoms and factors attributed to the disorder and severity,
namely: NCD due to Alzheimer’s disease, NCD due to Vascular...
