The Evolution of Military Aircraft

Abstract

This paper is about the history of aviation through the military.  This paper covers major changes in the aircraft used in the military along with the key improvements to the aircraft. The paper documents different aircraft used in different wars and how the different aircraft have excelled the United States in the field of aviation. This paper starts documentation at World War I and continues through Operation Desert Storm.

Airplanes have evolved since they first flew in 1903. They started as a way to expedite the process of transporting mail and now they are used to transport people along with mail and are used to help the military. In the early 1900s, we began trying to take flight; ever since we have made inconceivable gains in the aviation world. Aviation has become an everyday commodity to many people in the United States, but the military also use aircraft on a daily basis. The military has brought flight into everyday jobs and 113 years later it is remarkable what the military has done with aircraft in their everyday life.

    Military aviation began well before airplanes were used by the military; without the civilian advances in aviation there would never have been airplanes in the military. It all began with the Wright brothers. They had the ambition and courage to build the first flying aircraft. After the Wright brothers manufactured the aircraft, other people, for example, civilian aviators, began using them as well. Civilian aviators are the men and women who tested all of the aircraft before the military adopted all of the aircraft we have today. The military now test their own aircraft and with very little help from the civilian side. Civilian aviators also started the delivery of supplies for example, food, water, and medicine. The military now uses cargo aircraft to deliver all of the supplies...
