1. Aviation has come a long way within a short period of time that has changed the way the world operates. Three main areas that have had a direct influence on air transportation have been the economic, social and political aspects.

Economic values in air transportation have had a direct relation towards the running of the industry. Through great public interest in air transportation, airlines have taken large leaps in development. With the introduction of jet equipment, the nation as a whole has gained from a more pleasant and convenient method of transportation. Which have also increased safety and operational techniques.

The amount of daily seats originally available in the US have increased from 5,000 to now being able to carry 200,000 plus. Travelling speeds have developed from originally covering only 100 per hours to now travelling in excess of 600 miles per hour.

Numerous industries have been built around the aviation industry. Fresh flowers and produce can now be transported over the globe within hours from being picked and be sold that very same day.

It has now come to a point where many airport facilities require upgrading due to vast improvements in air transportation. There is now up to 21 seriously congested airports in the US, which require improvement to cope with demand now and the future.

The government has come to realize that airlines have become a public utility, and should be governed to reflect the public’s best interest. Three main areas of public interest are commerce, the postal service and national defense.

Nearly half the Federal government’s budget is directed into national defense, a large majority of this fund is allocated to manufacturing. Research and development has been a main responsibility of large aircraft manufacturers.
