Chapter I. PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Aromatherapy is the practice of using volatile plants or therapeutic oils extracted from natural plant matter in order to encourage good health, equilibrium, and well-being. It provides a wide range of benefits that can improve the condition of an individual. Aromatherapy is particularly effective for relieving stress, muscular and rheumatic pains and digestive disorders to name a few.

Since aromatherapy has claimed several benefits to improve an individual’s wellness, the researcher has come up with this project entitled “HOMEMADE SPRAY FRAGRANCE” which intends to formulate a spray fragrance out of essential oils derived from volatile plants. With this spray fragrance, individuals would be able to obtain or acquire the benefits of aromatherapy with just one click of the spray.

There are several methods in making essential oils but the researcher would be extracting the essential oils using the process of enfleurage. A few drops of the essential oil would then be mixed with ethanol alcohol and distilled water. The mixture will be placed in a dark bottle for longer shelf life.

This project was chosen by the researcher primarily because he is curious about how his perfume was done. The researcher believes that it would be better if perfumes are to be used also to freshen the air around him and not only to scent himself.
