One of the first miscommunications I observed was noise. I was on the train, on my

way home. There was a young lady on the phone and she had her daughter with her. Her

daughter was yelling and crying because she wanted her bottle. Her mother was not

paying attention because she was talking to what seem to be her boyfriend on the phone.

She then looks at her daughter and told her to stop yelling or she was not going to get her

bottle. Her boyfriend must have understood the wrong thing because the young lady

started yelling at him, telling him that she did not say she was going to hit her daughter.

With all the noise her daughter was making, her boyfriend misunderstood what she had

said and caused her to hang up on him.

My second observation was gender miscommunication. I was on the train again. This

time there was this group of young kids all together. Out of that group of kids there was

this one guy and one girl who were sitting together and talking to each other. The girl for

some reason started playing with his hair. She then complemented him by saying that she

loved how soft his hair was. He than answered her back telling her that he knew she had

feelings for him. She then started complaining saying that she was just giving him a

complement and that she only looked at him as a friend. The guy then got upset and left

the train. In this case, the girl had different intentions and the guy took it another way

causing the miscommunication.

My last observation was age miscommunication. In this situation, I was in a post

office. There was this elderly women and what seemed to be her granddaughter. They

were online waiting for the cashier. The elderly woman told her granddaughter to help

her translate and to let her know how much the cost of the package was going to be. The

elderly women only spoke Spanish. Her granddaughter seemed to only understand her a
