Health care in the United States has changed due to the Affordable Care Act. Consumers now have a more competitive market for health care that is supposed to make it more affordable. The increased competition in the industry means that health care organizations have to be more innovative when it comes to creating products that are consumer centered. UnitedHealth Group is a health care organization that is positioned to handle the evolving demands of consumers and the health care industry. The aim of this paper is to present a case study of UnitedHealth Group focusing on: how United Health Group addresses the needs of citizens over the next ten years; a strategic plan for network growth; nurse staffing; improving patient satisfaction; and resource management.

UnitedHealth Group is the largest for-profit healthcare organization in the United States. Holding a rank of 14 on the Fortune 500 list the Minnetonka, Minnesota headquartered conglomerate was founded in 1977 by physicians that were looking for a way to get more affordable healthcare options to consumers (Fortune, 2016, UnitedHealth Group, 2016). UnitedHealth Group was very innovative in healthcare and introduced strategies and policies that improved the quality of care for citizens and helped organizations become more profitable by improving efficiency.
