Introduction

On Friday, September 2, 2016 at approximately 1640 hours a central 911 call was dispatched to residence 2394 Heather Place, Hughesville, MD 20692 of a possible breaking & entering and burglary. Upon arrival of the police department at around 1645, resident owner Kendra Young frantically waved her hands in the air from the next door neighbor’s house to signal the police that it was her home being broken into. She walked up to the police officer and stated that while on her way home “she got a call from her alarm company stating the rear door alarm had triggered and law enforcement was being contacted via the alarm monitoring company”. Ms. Young was instructed by the police officer to go inside of her next door neighbor’s house while police department commence to securing the premises of any threats in the residence.

Incident Overview

At approx. 1646 I walked around to the rear of the house and discovered the back rear French-doors wide opened. I began to document the crime scene. Overall photographs, note taking, and a sketch of the room were initiated. Digital photos were taken using a Canon PowerShot SX530 HS Long Zoom - SX Series. Midrange and close-up photographs were taken of the evidence of the scene. My description of the scene processing starts with the rear entrance and moves into the residence itself. This does not necessarily reflect the actual order in which the crime scene was processed.

The actual crime took place in the lower rear level of residence. The photographs revealed one of two (the left side) glass French style doors were open at the entry point of the backyard grass area leading into the residence. The suspect gained entry and exit into the house through the rear doors. There was a patio above the rear entrance with no access points.
