Abstract:
The Mumbai city’s 62-km coastline which can be used as a transport corridor supplementing our saturated suburban railway services. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (MMRDA) has Rs 6,143 crore budgets (last year’s was Rs 6,653 crore) for this year has set aside Rs 100 crore for a water transport line from Ferry.

We are putting a lot of emphasis on the project, considering the city needs an eco-friendly mass system. On the Western waterfront, passenger water transport terminals along the route from Nariman Point to Bandra/Juhu, Vasai Kreek, Marve-Manoi, Belapur have been planned. As Gateway of India is quite crowded, we want to start the services on the eastern front from Ferry Wharf. "Because the train services on the harbour corridor are overburdened, it has become necessary to think of an alternative, the catamaran services. Besides, enough Navi Mumbai residents can afford catamarans.
We will be having ships with the capacity of 100, 50 and 20 passengers. Because when there is heavy rush we will run more capacity ships and when few people are travelling we can use other ships respectively.

The proposal will involve constructing jetties, providing vessels and ensuring safe transport. The time frame of the project will be decided by the government. These vessels won't be used during the monsoon. The project cost will be approximately 350 crore. We will provide 60% air conditioned seats and 40% non air conditioned seats for passengers. We will also carry 2-wheelers and cargo along with our ferry.
