Claude Monet

As the founder of French impressionist paintings, Oscar Claude Monet was born on November 14th, 1840. Monet was the second son born to his father Claude and mother Louise. He was called Oscar. As a young child, Monet moved from Paris to Normandy. As he went through many different schools, his father wanted him to be a part of the family grocery store business. Claude had different plans for his life; he wanted to be an artist.

Monet entered Le Havre Secondary School of the Arts, which began his painting career. He entered art lessons and was taught by many. Years later, Monet moved to Paris, really kicking off the start of his career as an artist. While in Paris, Monet joined the army. He was later removed after he came down with typhoid fever. His mom removed him from the army but only under one condition… he had to complete a full course at an art school. As he got tired of the same old same old teachings of art, he joined the school of Charles Gleyre in Paris. At his school he met Auguste Renoir, Fredric Bazille, and Alfred Sisley. With the help of his newfound friends, they shred new approaches to art. They painted with different effects of life using broken colors and different brushstrokes. This form of art later became known as impressionism.

During the rest of the 1870’s and early 1880’s, Monet used special techniques to paint scenes of different impressions on colors. Monet went to the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts to study the effects of light and color. By mid 1880’s Monet was generally the leader of the impressionist school and he achieved significant recognition. Monet was recognized as the master of meticulous observation and true feelings of his paintings.
