The multifactorial model in psychology shows that biological factors play a role in illnesses and it not always genetics. Psychological factors, sociocultural factors, and environmental factors play a role in health and illnesses. For example, a change in lifestyle to lower ones risk of cancer can include not smoking, exercise, and a change in diet, regardless of genetics can be a factor in changing the cycle of the disease. Many deaths from illnesses can be preventable. However, health problems are affected by psychological factors, such as attitudes, emotion, and behavior. Sociocutural factor has found that people with lower income can have poor health because of lack of medical care and not eating a proper diet. Ethnicity plays a role in ones health because minority groups may suffer prejudice and offered insufficient care opposed to another group.

The multifactorial model shows us the links between the mind and body pertaining to health. In addition to the outside sources that can contribute to diseases. Psychology has helped us learn that many factors need taken into consideration when dealing with health issues. The six catagories, which can affect ones health and wellness, are biological, sociocultural, behavior, stressors, environmental, and personality. All of these factors can be a negative impact on health. Biological factors such as exposure to viruses and germs can play a role in ones health. Biological factors also list family history of illnesses, age, gender, and ethnicity is an active role in health.

An example of an environmental factor concerning health could be exposure to radiation or pollution. Both of these factors can play roles in patients diagnosed with health issues such as cancers, and chronic headaches. In addition, ones behavior can become a factor for diseases. Habits such as smoking, alcohol, poor diet, and lack of activity are known to contribute to diseases such as cancer and heart diseases. Some of the factors of the...
