1964 Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Bars discrimination in employment on the basis of race or sex. EEOC is established.
1776 The Declaration of Independence was signed; the right to vote is based on the ownership of property
1967 Executive Order 11375 President Lyndon Johnson’s affirmative action policy of 1965 to cover discrimination based on gender as a result federal agencies and contractors must take active measures to ensure that women as well as minorities enjoy the same educational and employment opportunities as white males.
1992 Supreme Court reaffirms the validity of a woman’s right to abortion
1989 Abortion Control Act Passed
1972 Title IX of the Educational Amendment bans sex discrimination in schools.
1964 Civil Rights Act Passed; Guarantees the right to register to vote without fear of reprisal, also making it unconstitutional to impose a poll tax.
1920, The 19th Amendment to the Constitution guarantees suffrage for women.
1848 Elizabeth Cady Stanton Proclaims that “all men and women are created equal” The women’s Suffrage Movement has begun.
2009 President Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which allows victims of pay discrimination to file complaints with the government against their employer within 180 days of last paycheck, before it was within 180 days of first paycheck.
1978 The Pregnancy Discrimination Act bans employment discrimination against pregnant women
1963, Congress passes the Equal Pay Act, making it illegal for employers to pay a woman less than what a man would receive for the same job
1890, Wyoming becomes a state and is the first to provide suffrage in its constitution
