Introduction

The purpose was to find out if smart phone and internet usage has significant impact academically on students and if it plays a role in influencing their career ambitions. The objective is to find out if the amount of time the students spend on using smart phones can affect their performance in their studies. Through the survey, we can conclude if we agree or disagree with the claim that technologically proficient students perform academically.

For this, we designed the questionnaire and distributed 70 copies around the study area to SIM students and collected them immediately upon completion. The sampling method employed was simple random sampling. It was chosen because we wanted to ensure that the sample data formulated was unbiased as each person in the population (SIM students) has the same chance of being included.

In the survey, we covered on the topics focusing on the frequency and usage of their smart phone. Also, to ensure that we have sufficient data; we came up with necessary questions to infer if the distractions and time spent of smart phones contributes to their academic results.

The limitations include, ambiguous terms like questions which require ratings, and respondents’ ratings will vary accordingly. A survey also relies on a self-report method of data collection. Poor memory or misunderstanding the question can all contribute to inaccuracies in the data. The population of interest is limited to SIM students only and it doesn’t include ALL the students in Singapore....
