Local communities

Concerning the social part of the company we decided to focus on three main areas . First of all the work that is being done through local communities , then the awareness of human rights provided by the company and finally the Labor conditions offered to the employees.

Rewe has a strong impact in developing communities by having 15500 stores and travel agencies worldwide and contributing with 336000 job places. When a new store is fixed in a specific region, the company promotes the local community through the investment in infrastructures, taxes and duties as well as several social actions carried by each Rewe local team.

Rewe has 5 different projects going on: cooperation with charity institutions and NGOs, with the objective to establish sustainable projects to help and reach the most poor regions in the world; promotion of healthy nutrition and exercise because of the risks that can be originated by the teenager’s overweight; the promotion of minors against the alcohol abuse as alcohol problems fall on school performance, health, and behaviour; to provide education opportunities for children worldwide, building schools in Sri Lanka; and also to combact child prostitution as each year one million of childs are victims of commercial exploitation worldwide

Human rights -Concerning the Human rights Rewe created its own code to perform according the rights the global poputaliton and refused to deal with partners acting in regions where population rights are not respected. Rewe’s suppliers are required to observe globally applicable human rights standards and The company also avoids to deal with customers, suppliers, and businesses that not respect social standards such as using child labour, women discrimination and forced labour.
