1. What is an ethical dilemma?

Answer: A decision that involves a conflict of values; every potential course of action has some significant negative consequences.

Example: Mr. Garcia an, eighty-six years old. He was under ‘home health’, after he ran out of days for him to have a nurse from the facility to come to his home to take care of his needs provided by Medicare. Owing to financial problems, he opted to live in his trailer home, and was showing progress with the services of the home health. One night his wife ended up falling and suffered an infarction in her hip and had to be hospitalized, and later shifted to a nursing home. Mr. Garcia was, obviously, concerned and visited his wife every day at the nursing home, leaving him with no energy to keep up with his own home health appointments.

Now the guidelines for patients under home health care provided by Medicare clearly states that the patients must meet certain "homebound" criteria, like being unable to leave their homes, or if they do, it should infrequently, or for very short durations.

2. Think of a time you faced an ethical dilemma at work, at school, or at home. Be sure to choose a situation in which you had to choose between two options, each with negative consequences for you or someone else. What values were involved? What choice did you make? What was the impact on each party involved? Would you make the same choice if you were faced with a similar situation today? Why or why not?

I just recently was faced with an ethical dilemma with my previous employer. It was a situation where I was just a member of a local up standing fitness center and I was asked to become part of the management team for their café. I talked with the owner of the operation and he was impressed with my restaurant background and he was in need of someone like me to take over the café to help bring customer service and revenue back up to a 100%.
