Introduction

In today’s complex work environment, it is important for organizations to use decision-making models to make complex decisions. Organizations are built around teams that must find solutions to more complex business issues. The many routine and non-routine problems within an organization require different types of decisions (Schermerhorn, Hunt, & Osborn, 2005). Therefore, decision-making models are required. Decision-making is a process of identifying problems or opportunities and choosing the best course of action to successfully resolve the issue (Schermerhorn, et al., 2005). Critical thinking needs to be incorporated into decision-making models to ensure the best decision is made. Critical thinking assists people to ask relevant questions, analyze and interpret information, and make the best decision possible (Schermerhorn, et al., 2005). By systematically evaluating different ideas by asking certain questions, a critical thinker can choose among alternative solutions to assist in making a decision (Elder & Paul, 2001). Critical thinking is especially important because the decision-making process is complex. Undoubtedly, critical thinking is an important process to master because decision makers make meaningful decisions on a daily basis, such as professional, educational, and personal decisions. Making the correct decision requires that the thought process be systematically cultivated (Elder & Paul, 2001). In order to improve the quality of the thought process, critical thinking needs to be deployed by skillfully taking charge of the structures inherent in thinking and imposing logical and intellectual standards upon them (Elder & Paul, 2001). By analyzing the Seven-Step Career Decision-Making Model, it will be applied to a job-related decision.
