Subject : Strike in one of the unit of ABC Trading.

It is a matter of serious concern that sales employees of one of our unit are on strike which damages the company’s reputation heavily. The board strongly believes that the strike is unwarranted and could have been easily avoided if it was approached in a professional way.

Following are the observations and recommendations based on the report given by the General Manager and Chief Sales Manager to the MD and the report given by the MD to the BOD on this issue.

Observations

The BOD strongly feel that the strike is the result of mismanagement / miscommunication and lack of understanding between all the three officials (MD,GM&CSM). Decisions have been taken by the personnel without considering the after effects. The entire staff is unhappy with their Managers, Colleagues starting, from the GM and up to sales managers. Everybody in the hierarchy is complaining about each others and there is no motivation and the morale of the employees is completely down, and it is evidenced by the declining profits in the recent months in this particular unit.

Considering the MD’s decision of appointing new CSM and placing him directly under the MD with independent financial powers, he should have clearly defined the responsibility and authority attached to the position and also communicated the same to the GM so that there is no encroachment by the GM on CSM’s authority. This could have to an extent avoided the possibility of strike.
