THE HOMELESS

Everyone wanted to be me, but now everyone looks down on me like I was a disease. My name is David, living in the D.C area along with six thousand men, women and child in which society frown upon on a daily. Yes, I am homeless! Each day is a struggle, but it wasn’t always like this for me. I earned a P.H from Howard University in computer networking. I was making good money (30.00 an hour) building, fixing and networking computers from nothing to something. For the next twelve years I was very successful in my craft. Single with now kids, I had the life I always wanted by the age thirty-five. You can say I was living the lavished life style; money, expensive cars, and women, lots of women were the things I dreamed about growing up.

People have some strange mental pictures of “the homeless.” Want to see a homeless person? Take a look in the mirror. Tomorrow, you could be the homeless person. I used to be one of those people, and in an instance I was transformed into faceless no body, feet protruding thru the sides of my worn down six hundred dollar Gator shoes, my finger nails look as if I bath them in the soil of the earth. No one once to come near me, maybe it’s because of the smell or is it that they are afraid of catching a disease? Very few of you are guaranteed immunity from the disasters of life (the very wealthy). Take those people for example who make money the illegal way, “drug dealers, mobsters, etc. They never thought they would see the inside of a jail cell. Life is full of surprises. Just about any of you could be a soup kitchen client within 30 days. And as for me, “the homeless” and societies attitude toward us, nobody is qualified to judge unless they have been tested by the same situation.

I was a good person, did no wrong to anyone, and times got hard when the company I worked for went under for tax evasion and money laundering. My account was frozen, my cars were reposed and I had neither family nor friends who take me...
