Subject: Welcome To The Department

Welcome to the team! I have noticed that you are new to this type of work as you have a previous background in accounting, thus I have written a memo to you with some information to guide you through the communication process with the group. Communication is very important in this department and making sure to handle the situation the best way possible is very important. I have learned by trial and error and in order to make communication beneficial there are certain things that you can do to relate with each and every person in this department. Throughout this memo I have referenced some of my experiences with the group which I believe will help you along the way and be successful. I have broken down the memo in three different groups to make it easier to reference back to when needed.

Barrier Analysis

Interaction is very important in our department but sometimes it is not always easy. There are many barriers that may exist in group communication. Cultural and language barriers are a couple examples of these barriers. Personal culture and work cultures will affect how someone perceives a message. Linguistic differences also leads to communication breakdowns, the same word may mean different things to different individuals. Take the word 'value' for example: What is the 'value' of this car? I 'value' our friendship. The word 'value' has different meanings in different sentences. A breakdown in communication occurs when the definition of the word is perceived incorrectly by the receiver.

Emotions can cause barriers in communication as well. If the receiver of a message is having a difficult day or having personal issues the message may be perceived as a bad message or worse than intended. Additionally, if the receiver...
