There Is No Right to Bear Arms

“Whatever side you take in the current debate about gun ownership, one point should be clear: there is no constitutional protected right to bear” Amitai Etzioni.

The controversy surrounding the right to bear arms has got many people frustrated, and angry at decisions made by congress to keep restricting guns. Amitai Etzioni’s is begging the question when he states in his article about how the second amendment doesn’t guarantee a right to bear arms. In Amitai’s article he explains examples of court cases pertaining to certain counties and townships in which he is making a hasty generalization that the country is suffering from the same particular cases and people. The second amendment is about the broad understanding and reason behind the right to bear arms. Its guidelines as to how our founding fathers regulated and assured the people of the right to defend themselves. It’s a false analogy to assume that our amendments should change based from individual crimes in city’s or towns.

American people with good standings with the law should be able to carry a weapon. It is in the constitution that we have the right to bear arms. It wouldn’t matter if there were stricter laws enforced to ensure less people would have guns, because the criminals already don’t follow rules and guns would still be in criminal’s hands. The right to bear arms is a tradition with deep roots in American society. Its sad when people that uphold the law and deserve the right to bear arms have to battle to even own or posses a gun.
