Introduction

English is the major language for communication internationally. Which optimal age to

learn the second foreign language is suitable? The key points are “ children before 6 and second

language, not only English”.

There are many cram schools for English improvement in Taiwan. This means people live

in Taiwan are willing to pay more energy including time and money to enhance their English

ability. There are also many kindergartens in Taiwan starting teaching kids English and this offer

attracts parents to let kids go to this kind of kindergartens.

To learn language is to learn the culture. However, there are a lot of parents in Taiwan only

hoping their children have good score in the school because English is the main course for

entrance examination in the future. All of elementary schools in Taiwan have English class from

3rd grade, some schools from 2nd grade.

Problem statement

Our research question is “learning second language before 6 years old”. We suppose most

of countries have the similar educational systems that children can have the formal/official

education starting from 7 years old. It means children can learn their mother language from 7

officially. However, some parents eager to let their children to learn English or second language

as earlier as possible, which is starting...
