Please accomplish the following:

•Discuss the topic of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome ◦Provide information on causes, symptoms, diagnosis techniques, prevention, and treatment

•List and describe at least four types of repetitive motion injuries other than Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

•Use the internet to research this topic ◦Remember to cite your informational sources

•Select a profession, hobby, or other activity and discuss how RMIs might affect the people involved in those activities.

•What actions are they performing that are frequently repeated?

•What body part is involved?

•How likely do you think an injury might occur?

For example: Cooks in a fast-food restaurant might flip loads of hamburgers. The constant twisting of the wrist used to turn the spatula might induce an RMI in the wrist and elbow. This is probably a low-risk motion since the number of hamburgers turned is probably not so many as to cause an injury. Also, there are a lot of other activities that would be done as well, so the affected area would have a chance to rest between events.

Your Reaction Postings

Read the Other Student Postings:

•Select another student’s posting and offer at least two ways to eliminate the repetitive motion that he or she suggests may cause an injury.

For example: I’ve seen machines in some fast-food restaurants that take the burger through an oven which broils on both sides at once, so there is no need to flip the burger. You could also make sure that the same person doesn’t work on the grill for more than an hour without a break to reduce the possibility of injury.
