I. Introduction

This ON/OFF type solenoid cartridge valve has a lot many applications like in industrial, construction agricultural and material handling applications.

These compact screw-in types 2 Way, 3 Way, and 4 Way valves are presently being used on a variety of agricultural applications like tractors and construction equipment which include Motor Graders, Excavators, Scrapers and Front-End Loaders. They are used in pilot control circuits for shifting large valves, transmission shift controls, Hi-Low speed circuits, in addition to clutch and differential lock functions. Since all of these markets segment have cut throat competition, survival needs cost competitiveness.

The pull-type solenoid cartridge valve consists of pressure containing tube with an armature. When a magnetic field is applied to the solenoid-tube assembly, the armature is attracted to the upper end carbon steel piece and with it pulls up the poppets and allows the flow from inlet to outlet. Pilot Poppet movement is resisted by armature spring.

When magnetic field is removed from the solenoid tube assembly, the spring in the armature pushes the poppets on to the seats in body of valve and hence restricts the inlet to outlet flow.

II. Quarter Tube assembly and coil Model

For Magnetic analysis of the geometry of valve tube assembly we have created a quarter model of the tube assembly with the coil and nut mounted on it since the geometry is axis-symmetric.

Since the magnetic fields are caused by windings supplied by voltage Transient analysis has to be carried out by making the 2D geometry Cylindrical around Z axis as seen in the diagram above. The geometry of the assembly is modeled in Pro-E and is a highly accurate physical based model.

Materials need to be assigned to all objects since they affect...
