Environmental

Environment is widespread definition; in this case we have to consider the information and knowledge that surrounds internally and externally to Vodacom, not just consider them to the outside. Information and knowledge regarding the different departments, there are these sources that are interesting to characterize as certain or uncertain (Lawerence and Lorsh, artikkel).

When applying the environmental factors to Vodacom, contingency theory emphasizes that design decisions depend, or are contingent on environmental conditions. For Vodacom to adapt to their environment continuously, seems very important in their market of telecommunication. We can transmit Lawerence and Lorsch theory and say that the telecommunication market today is characterized by uncertainty and rapid rates of change in the market conditions(Scott and Davis , 2010); this can refer to their high churn rate (30%), as well as the stock has fallen 73% on the stock market. Different subgroups in Vodacom are suffering from different external demands, such as unexpected external break downs in the telephone network that disable deliveries of services (Delivery department).

Further the technological challenges such as hardware products that do not fit with technical configurations that the customer has already installed. To recapitulate, both constraints and opportunities influence Vodacom’s environment and this has may lead to dissatisfaction among their customers.
