VOTING

The ANC is popular during election time. Then when it is election they want people to jump to the voting station, but then after election they no where to be found .The government get elected and this reflects the will of people. The government promise people to deliver services for them. As a result when people see nothing is happening there is no change at all. Then they decide to protest for the service delivery (housing, infrastructure, sanitation etc). People protest violently because they believe that if they just march will get no response and if they damage something important then the police and government will take notice. They believe that protest is the only way to get heard after making many pleas to the government. They do not expect them to just come and start building houses, but people want government to at least come and speak to the community.

ANC SUPPORTERS

The ANC reflects the will of people. Most people who protest against the elected government are the supporters of ANC. And it is the same people who voted the government. Though they are protesting they still support the ANC such that there are particular things government does not do.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Most protests occur during winter. When it is winter the weather condition changes it rains, snows etc therefore it when people realises that water is coming in to their houses and it freezing they feel cold. It when they start to see the government they elected is not delivering services as promised. During summer the number of protests, protesting for service delivery are very few.

CORRUPTION

The government delivers services to communities. The government subordinates take money/ tenders from the government and buy cheap material then use the rest for personal use, while delivering the services they employ their relatives. The government give tenders to their relatives whereas there a lot of people who qualify to get those tenders. As a result people start protesting to fight...
