As the CEO of Community South Medical Center, the time has come for us to update the organization’s strategic plan. Instead of continuing the yearly assessment as planned, we will revise our strategic mission of the organization. It has come to my attention that there are some issues confronting Community South Medical Center that need to be addressed. Those issues include; the lack of clinical staff, such as, registered nurses; non-interfacing information technology systems; outdated facilities and infrastructure; a reductions in JCAHO compliance on internal audit; and change in the economic mix. Over a long term period, all organizations want and need to be successful, if they want to continue to exist. An important factor in being successful starts with the organization having the ability to plan for the future and know how to tap market opportunities. Strategic planning can be defined as, “the process of identifying a desired future state of an organization and a means to achieve it” (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2007, p. 61).

The foundation for our strategic development will start with the situational assessment. It is through the situational assessment process that the strategic identification will begin. In the situational assessment process, our organization’s management team will utilize the information that is given to them to recognized exact strategies that could possibly be valuable to our organization; by helping our organization to grow or to safeguard current areas of strength within our organization (Buchbinder & Shanks, 2007, p. 61).
