On September 11, 2001, Osama bin Laden orchestrated a horrid assault towards the U.S. A day filled with horror and terror, it has alternated the perspective of life all around the world. An alarming event that have authorities held  with a higher degree of suspicion to prevent any illegal activities. U.S. borders swiftly intensified its security and searches. Any type of transportation were to be thoroughly searched despite the utmost suspicion. A moment where the skies were covered in darkness, the sun has yet to recover from the eclipse caused that day.

    Terrorist activities, astounding amount of illegal immigrants, and drug smuggling cartels easily penetrated through the U.S. borders. With the al-Qaeda attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C. in 2001, stricter laws emerged. "September 11, 2001 brought the costliest man-made tragedy in the history of civilization to the United States of America." (Kilroy 1) This would lead to a vast renovation towards border security and investigations. A routine stop and search at the border would not need a warrant or reasonable cause because the federal government has the power to defend itself by conducting an inspection to individuals and property entering and leaving the country. In fact, a border search is a well known and established exception the the Fourth Amendment's  probable cause and warrant necessities. Authorities have the power to search an individuals automobile, baggage, or possessions that are entering or leaving the country. Border inspections occur when entry is made by land, ship docks into U.S. territory, or airports that consists international airlines. The U.S. border personnel are being challenged by newer and smarter techniques to transact illegal individuals or properties into the country. As newer challenges emerge, more advance technology are being used to monitor activities and help prevent crime across the borders.
