The architectural design that I chose was the Georgia Aquarium that is housed in the downtown area of Atlanta, Georgia. When I first looked at the aquarium during the time that they were building it, I was like what in world. I have no clue what kind of design it was going to be. As time progressed with the construction, I was starting to see the shape and the form that it was taking. It looked as if it was going to be the shape of a whale.

When the construction of the Georgia Aquarium was finished, it was revealed that it was in the shape of a ship crushing into the waves. On the side at the very top of the aquarium is the letter G with a tail that looks like a fish’s tail. At night, the letter G is lit and it changes colors. It is very beautiful at night.

The roof of the aquarium is designed to look like the waves from an ocean. The wave that is in the front of the building is a canopy for the visitors, just in case of rain. When you enter the aquarium, you are passing through a narrow hallway there are fish tanks on both sides of the wall. Once you pass through the corridor, you enter into the main hub of the aquarium. Here you will be able to view, but not completely see, five of the exhibit galleries: Georgia Explorer, River Scout, Cold Water Quest, Tropical Diver and Ocean Voyager, the food court, gift shops, and theatre radiating off the space. The vision of Georgia’s aquarium was to enfold the visitors with the idea of being in an underwater adventure as they enter in the bowls of the ship and embark on the various things to do within the aquarium. The aquarium is a postmodern style because it was produced in the twenty-first century. According to the “The Art of Being Human: The Humanities as a Technique for Living” (Ch. 4), there is some debate whether you can have form or function in a piece of architectural art.
