4)     Compare the globalization approaches of INSEAD and Hult.  How are they similar? Different?  Are there competitive advantages and disadvantages between these schools? Provide your reasoning.

Hult and INSEAD are two modern business schools seeking to give their students a truly global experience. After researching what makes these schools tick, we have found evidence of strong similarities and several distinctive characteristics giving each school its own flavor. Simply put, and as will be discussed in this section, INSEAD strives to also give its teachers an international experience focused on research. Hult, for its part, seems to have approached its International school model with a blank slate rather than looking to traditional Business school structures.

With a brief perusal of the INSEAD case study we note a focus on research that seems to dominate life at INSEAD. According to INSEAD veterans one of the chief reasons for the Singapore campus was “research interests”. Junior teachers are encouraged to change campuses if this will support their research track. The school then tries to align research travel with teaching opportunities. INSEAD also facilitates lectures and conferences on international themes, encourages its students and staff to attend conferences in the states and throughout Europe and offers them research trips to top business schools. Starting in 2001 INSEAD formed an alliance with Wharton. This alliance also naturally resulted in the INSEAD/Wharton Center for Global Research & Education. Later, in 2006, INSEAD also founded a research center in Israel.

All this focus on their staff seems to be paying off. INSEAD has a very professional body of teachers. Indeed 97% of faculty have a PHD compared to 72% at Hult. This wealth of knowledge also takes form outside the class room as: INSEAD Knowledge, a library of business research; and iTunes U, a platform provided by Apple to post educational podcasts.
