A patriot is a person who supports their country and fights for what they believe in. Hope or passion can drive a patriot to do whatever they do. When we talk about a patriot or patriotism we talk about the US, an eagle, or our flag, but have you ever thought of a veteran? To me being in the military is the highest form of patriotism. A veteran, whether they have been in war or not, young or old; they deserve our support. Veterans have done many things we need to honor.

Honoring our veterans is important because they have made our country the way it is, free. Anyone who is willing to fight for our country should be acknowledged for what they have done. We all love being free, right? We should support those who make it free. Some civilians do not see how important it is to support our veterans. Most of us love our troops, but many kids these days do not know when Veterans Day is. At school, we have a lecture about veterans one day out of the year. I believe that Veterans Day needs to have a bigger focus, so our veterans can see how much they really are loved and cherished.

We assume that people know that we care and they take that for granted. Most of the time, it is better to hear that people care. Honoring veterans can help someone’s self-esteem, and the feeling that you are valued for what you have done. Having pride in your work helps you know how much your work is worth. Veterans need this recognition for the sacrifices they have made. Veterans have given up pretty much everything by joining the military. Some military personnel might have missed the birth of their child or even all their birthdays. Some people go into the military and never come back. Veterans who are dead have families that need to be honored too. It is our job as Americans to help them out and give them a reason to be the proudest of the proud. Honoring veterans is extremely important. We should appreciate all they have done. If I could, I would give each veteran a high five....
