Should Cork’d allow advertising on its site? Sell wines? Why or why not?

Cork’d deriving its strength mainly from the user’s trusting it and providing better space for interaction between the users and the wineries. Wineries enrolling with Cork’d and providing the cash, in turn also dependent on the number of the users Cork’d able to maintain on its site for social networking among the wine lovers.

Allowing advertising?

As of now they are charging wineries for the profile page on the Cork’d site. Allowing for the advertisement will lead to better financial position. But at the same time if are unable to get the advertise from the most attractive wine makers then it will lead user’s to lose their interest into Cork’d content. The reason for top wine makers to not to advertise at Cork’d might be that they would prefer Snooth or Cellartracker. As Cork’d now stands behind the Snooth and Cellartracker in online traffic. Considering about the rivals Snooth is focused on shopping experience and allows shoppers to compare price across the wines. While Cellartracker helps user to inventory management with professional wine reviews for personal inventory. Also they provide inventory valuation in premium service.

So, allowing advertising will be a good move provided Cork’d is able to keep the traffic on its site increasing and making sure that top wineries advertise on its space along with other.

Also, it will help Cork’d to maintain better financial position but at the same time they will also need to maintain the team to look after for the advertisement. As in case of enrolling by the wineries, most of the offers came from direct meeting with Gary and CEO; if similar kind of trend is observed in advertisement too, Cork’s will need to maintain the team for it as well.
