Electronic medical records (EMR) are used in healthcare organizations across the country using this form of charting allows healthcare workers access to a patients medical history at the click of a mouse. The EMRs is an overall view of the patient whether it is dieting habits or a history of substance abuse it is accessible to the healthcare team via the computer.” With an eye toward both cost savings and improved care, the Bush administration set a goal in spring 2004 of having an electronic health record for every American within 10 years. One year later, the administration was ready with requests for proposals on a variety of associated topics. Organizations that have implemented EMRs are enthusiastic about their benefits”. ( Lamont Judith, 2005)

By implementing the use of EMRs communication flows from one channel to the next in healthcare organizations. EMRs allows the physician to check the status of patients without being present, EMRs also allow the food service worker to view a patients diet without being present and taking orders on a piece of paper. EMRs eliminate the need and usage of paper which in turn saves money that would have otherwise been used to destroy private documents concerning the medical history of patients. With the non-usage of paper it allows less likely that a violation of HIPPA could occur from the misplacing of confidential documents concerning patients.
