Every government, right from creation of Pakistan, had underlined the importance of education for attaining social, economic and political growth and development; however none of them practically placed education on top of the list of priorities. Consequently Pakistan is lagging behind in terms of literacy, socio-economic and political stability as compared to other nations in the region. Although the private sector has wonderfully contributed in the field education and has established world class basic and higher education institutions which can be described second to none yet they are serving only to a certain class having resources to afford the high cost of these education centers.

On the other a vast majority of the poverty stricken people cannot even think to have an access to these educations institutions. Due to lack of resources the precious asset of young people finds themselves helpless to serve the country and the society.

The corporate sector realizing its social responsibility has done a lot to improve their lot of the poor through supporting educational institutions and training centers which certainly deserve appreciation and hopefully this trend would force the decision makers to do more for people of our own country the only way out to strengthen country socially, economically and politically.

Recently, Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has set an example for other corporate members to follow suit by providing free electricity to a large number of schools under their social investment program.

KESC under its Social Investment Plan signed the 4th memorandum of understanding with The Citizens Foundation (TCF), to provideFREE of Cost electricity to TCF schools, which is one of the leading non-profit organizations in the field of formal education for the less privileged children of Pakistan.
