Social Process Theories

Mountain Homes Youth Ranch is a federally sponsored program, located on a 15,000 acre private ranch in Colorado. This program helps struggling teenagers between the ages of 12-17 find their “true path”. Advisors and group leader’s help will help these children reestablish important basic principle behaviors, while also teaching them to view themselves and others as valued and meaningful contributors. There are three phases to the program; beginning, advanced, and ranch phases. Each phase helps the child grow and become more understanding of their surroundings. In this program they will learn to work as a unit and not rely solely on themselves.

Social Structure Theories

The state of Oregon created a program called Juvenile Crime Prevention or JCP in 2007. The goal for JCP is to reduce juvenile arrests, reduce juvenile recidivism, and reduce the need for beds in facilities operated by the Oregon Youth Authority. This program offers several different things to the youth population of Oregon in order for them to become productive members of their community. JCP offers interventions for youth at risk of juvenile delinquency and essential services to at-risk youth and families. The Juvenile Crime Prevention program also offers substance abuse programs, tutoring, housing assistance, medical assistance, and family counseling.

Social Conflict Theories

Resolutions Northwest (RNW) is based out of the Greater Portland, Oregon area. This programs main goal is to implement peer mediation programs in schools across the United States. These mediation programs will provide constructive conflict resolution services and education. The program also provides an opportunity for diverse students to develop and use effective communication and problem-solving skills rather than using violence.
