The employees within the organization are clearly taking advantage of receiving a reward prior to accomplishing the required task. I will explain why this is minimizing the effort put forth by this businesses workforce, even though they are already knowledgeable in the information. I will also provide suggestions to be implemented in the organization to prevent repetitive failures and have those employees that pass motivate their coworkers to do the same in a timely manner.

The issue the organization is having is numerous failures of the mandatory diversity training by its employees. Currently, the training takes place off-site in a hotel for one day. Personnel are allowed to attend the training program as many times as needed if they do not pass the program. In addition, they are paid every day spent in the program. The employees are not putting forth an effort simply because they know that pass or fail it is a paid day off, until they do pass. They are being rewarded for unethical behavior, which in turn leads to more unethical behavior.

Ways to change cycle of negative outcomes would be to bring the trainer to the workplace, removing the automatic reward for doing nothing. The leadership could change the reward for passing the program into compensation time to be taken at the employee’s discretion; with supervisory approval. If that is not possible, the training could remain as is with paid time for the training. However, if personnel are not successful the first time, any further training would not be paid for. If the organization believes that the program should remain the same, another option would be to begin documenting failures and counseling personnel. Those with excessive failure would face disciplinary action.
