I. What is the meaning of dance?

According to Myrna Beltran, dance is the process of becoming. It is when a dancer dances the dance when dance come to its form – the becoming of the dance. It is through dance when a dancer becomes a dancer and a dance becomes a dance through the dancer.

II. What are the different kinds of dance shown in the documentary? Enumerate and define.

* Pangalay dance – it is a traditional style of dancing in Philippines and considering it as “the closest dance to classicism”. It is usually danced by the Tausug, Samal, Badjao, and people in Sulu archipelago. Pangalay dance gestures represent serenity in motion partnered by its slow rhythm.

* Ballet – according to Basillo Esteban Villaluz, ballet isn’t just an art it is also science. It is a dance in which conventional poses and steps are combined with light flowing figures.

* Contemporary dance – according to Myrna Beltran, contemporary dance does not have a definite meaning. One’s definition of contemporary dance may be different from another but it doesn’t mean that one or either is wrong. The very nature of contemporary dance is the plurality of ideas.

III. Who is Donna Miranda?

Donna Miranda is the choreographer and the dancer of Beneath Polka-dotted Skies in Yokohama Dance Collection-R Solo X Duo Competition in Yokohama, Japan in 2007. She won the Jury prize award.

IV. What does the dance “Beneath the polka dotted skies” represent?

The dance represents Filipino workers in Japan who packs their belongings to go to japan and work. And in the end they end up packing themselves on their way home to Philippines.
