Abstract

Supply chain management (SCM) is a comprehensive and systematic strategy that requires a master plan to effectively manage a large-scale operation. Apple Inc. understands this plan and has the power to overcome obstacles and manage an effective and efficient supply chain. Apple’s competitors Google, Amazon and Microsoft, although effective in SCM have a difficult time competing with Apple’s state-of-the-art applications, continuous process improvement and increased product demand.

Apple Inc. dominates in supply chain management (SCM) process by consistently bringing operational and innovative excellence to the most competitive marketplaces in the world. Apple’s ability to transform its supply chain into a value chain was developed by shaping its innovations, the use of just-in-time supply chain processes, and a dedicated network of suppliers.

Organizational Profile

Apple designs, manufactures and markets personal computers and related personal computing and mobile communication devices. They are engaged in designing laptops, along with specialized software. Apple also started the digital music revolution.With their innovative style, Apple has become a leader in personal electronics devices which has become a game-changer in the consumer market.

Profile of the Organization

Apple was founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They were two college drop outs, who worked out of a northern California basement. The two originators were inspired by Jef Raskin, a college professor from the University of California at San Diego.

With this inspiration both Jobs and Wozniak revolutionized the personal computer era with the belief of illustration, innovation, and reduction; these philosophies spearheaded the evolution of the personal computer and later personal mobile devices (Apple, 2012).
