Management Development and Strategic Management Change.

This article is about the considerable range of management education and development initiatives that are available and how they can relate to strategic change. Since 1980’s economic volatility and industry restructuring tended to make management development more accountable in term of return on investment and also more directed toward enabling the manager as well as the company to cope with rapid environmental change. The top management had to subscribe to a more proactive philosophy of existing at the reactive philosophy of existing at the whim of the market place. Strategic management is focused on identifying the organisation's mission and strategies as well as the resource base it needs to succeed. The shortfall in management skills, knowledge and aptitude which may be identified then provides the basis for manpower and succession planning of the organisation. There are a few of key management development tasks that must be accomplished in organization. Firstly, establish an explicit management development philosophy/mission that fits the organisation's overall mission and strategies. Secondly, integrate the sequences of management development into the sequences of planning and operating management. Thirdly, setting up and maintaining performance appraisal, succession planning and other systems which provide the data base on the managerial capability in the organisation.
