Egypt

My country is Egypt. Egypt is a very interesting country indeed to learn about. In my essay I am going to focus on the student profile, Overview of the country, and any gender-related inequalities that stand out to me, while then relating it to what I have learned in class this semester.

Egypt has been working on growing economically, Increasing the index ranking by 50 percent. Although problems with health and poverty still exist, the government has been finding new ways to provide better jobs, safety, and primary education for students. There still seems to be disparities between different parts of Egypt, with 25 million people residing in the Upper Egypt area making up 37 percent of the population.

The public education in Egypt is split up into 3 levels, basic education stage for student’s ages 4-14, Kindergarten is followed by primary school for six years, the secondary school is for three years for ages 15-17. Any education run by the government is free. There are two types of government schooling, Arabic schools and experimental language schools. Arabic schools teach the students governmental national curriculum in Arabic language. In the experimental schools they still teach most of the government curriculum in English including French. There are also Azhar schools which are named institutes and have the same educational system as the others, primary, preparatory, and secondary. There are private and public higher educations for students in Egypt as well, the only difference is public higher education is free and the private is not. The primary school enrollment for girls and boys is at 94 and 91 percent. Enrollment rates for girls are lower than boys within primary school. While 21 percent of children are enrolled in pre-schools it has not yet met its goal of 60 percent of enrollment. School attendance rates are lowered 10 percent by both genders.
