Chemical Reactions Lab
Purpose: To observe various types of chemical reactions.
Date: Wednesday, March 13, 2013
Station 1:
|Substance |Mass before rxn |Mass after rxn |
|Balloon |2.0g | |
|Baking Soda |1.4 g | |
|Vinegar |8.9 g | |
|Test Tube and Beaker |50.0 g | |
|Total Reaction |62.3 g |62.1 g |
|Symbolic Representation |2NaHCO3+2CH3COOH( 2NaCH3COOH+2CO3+H2 |
|Macroscopic Representation |Bubbles; balloon filled with gas |
|Microscopic Representation | |
1. This was a single displacement reaction.
2. The balloon filled with air which means some gas was created.
3. The law of conservation of mass states that the mass of the products equals the mass of the reactants. It was observed in this reaction because the total mass of the reaction before and after was the same.
Station 4:
|Substance |Mass before rxn |Mass after rxn |
|Magnesium |.04 g |.005 g |
|Symbolic Representation...
